Emergency
Dhulikhel Hospital has been providing 24 hour emergency services since it was established. Increasing numbers of patients are attending the emergency department. The Department is not simply growing but it is also improving its services. In the last year the Department has shifted to a new home. This has helped meet the increased demands and allowed provision of better patient care. The Department now has a separate room for managing gynaecological emergencies. The Department has an emergency Procedure Room capable of carrying out procedures using a range of different anaesthetic methods. With a new portable ultrasound and an X-ray machine, the Department is now capable of carrying out rapid bedside screening for trauma patients. A general practitioner with MDGP qualification and experience now supervises the activities of the Department. The Department also co-ordinates a well-equipped emergency ambulance service with round the clock paramedics on standby for necessary pre-hospital care. As part of Dhulikhel Hospital’s initiative to bring standard medical care to rural communities, medical officers from the Department visit various outreach clinics regularly. As an Emergency Department of a tertiary care hospital, the Department receives a variety of medical emergencies and trauma patients from all over Kavre and its surrounding districts. The Department hopes to add a few more services in near future.
