INTRODUCTIONphysiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human function and movement and maximising human potential.  In September 2002 the physiotherapy certificate course was started at Dhulikhel Medical Institute (DMI), following a twelve-year gap in the provision of physiotherapy education in Nepal. To date 48 students have graduated from the physiotherapy programme of DMI.

Aim

To produce competent, compassionate and independent physiotherapists who can carry out their professional responsibilities effectively and efficiently in a variety of health care settings

Objectives

  • To integrate core knowledge and practical skills in the clinical setting
  • To practice physiotherapy skills in an effective and safe manner
  • To communicate effectively with patients, patients’ carers, and members of the health care team
  • To have the personal characteristics and attitudes required to carry out their responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner
  • To be able to work in community-based or hospital based services
  • To demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development

Future plan

To start a Bachelor degree course in physiotherapy

Entry Requirement:

Certificate level:

SLC minimum second division with Math Science and English or equivalent
degree

Scholarships

Limited scholarships are available for the needy students. Beside limited scholarship schemes, there is provision for Educational Loan scheme too.

Awards

Awards are awarded to excelling students on the basis of their academic merit in each course and   also to those who show excellent performance in Extra Curricular Activities.
